Vincent van Gogh

One of the most famous works in the world, appreciated for decades for its sinuous forms and deep blues.

Painted in 1889, the work depicts the night views Van Gogh had from his room in the Saint-Remy mental asylum, where he spent the last years of his life.

In the background is the village, whose tranquility and somber colors contrast with the energetic composition of the sky, where its voluptuous textures and spiral strokes convey vivacity and dynamism. It is said that Van Gogh expressed in this way that the work is focused on the sky and not on the earth.

It stands as one of the painter's most notable works. It is also undoubtedly one of the most famous produced in the artist's brief but prolific career.

The artist painted this vibrant seascape outdoors in 1888. He attempted to capture the color of the sea, describing it as "a color that changes."

Corresponds to the fourth version in the series of sunflowers.

Vincent's fondness for these flowers was almost an obsession; he not only painted them with all kinds of lighting and arrangement, but also made several versions of each composition. For example, in this other version of Sunflowers, the same elements are shown with slight changes: 12 flowers in an oval vase, on a table.

Upon arriving in Arles, south of Paris, the artist was immediately impressed by the views and made a sketch of this landscape in a letter to his brother Theo.

It is one of the most recognized works of the artist. The vibrant colors, the unusual perspective, the familiar and homely character make up a work that is not only among his most popular paintings, but also one of his favorites.

The painting is filled with the warm gold and blue tones Vincent perceived in the La Crau valley, outside Arles. The composition is formed by brushstrokes in all directions to depict the figures, which are superimposed on a smooth sky in color and texture.

It is currently on display at the Van Gogh Museum, in Amsterdam.

This painting titled Irises was painted by Van Gogh in 1889, a year before his death. He was inspired to paint these flowers by the ones in the garden of the mental asylum where he was staying.

It is a work full of air and life, each of the "Irises" painted by the artist is unique. Van Gogh carefully studied the movement and shapes of the plant to create a variety of silhouettes with wavy, bent, and curled lines. The painting is currently located at the J. Paul Getty Museum, United States.

During those months, he painted 15 works of flowering trees. In a letter to his brother Theo, Vincent referred to this work saying: "I also have a small pear tree, vertical, with two other horizontal canvases on either side."

The painting The Siesta was painted by Vincent Van Gogh while he was interned in a mental asylum in Saint Remy de Provence, France. The composition is inspired by a drawing by Millet, as Vincent mentions to his cousin in a letter.

Although copied from the idea, experts assure that Van Gogh's personal style is fully appreciated in this work, characterized in this painting by the chromatic construction based on contrasts of complementary colors: blue/violet and yellow/orange.

The artist wrote to a friend explaining that the reason was that he had no money to pay models. This type of painting allowed him to experiment with bright colors. In this painting, the artist applied thick paint, which adds texture and relief to the image.

This work uses the pointillist technique, though instead of dots, Van Gogh brushed the painting with small stripes of paint, thus adding textures with his particular style.

The artist avoided going outside when the weather was very cold and rainy, and on one of those days, Vincent conceived this work. Driven by the desire to imitate figures he had seen in Japanese art lithographs (an artistic influence in the West known as "Japonism"), he went further, wanting to show how light reflected off the shell, resulting in a work with many details of the animal.

Painted during his stay at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence sanatorium, where the genius would spend the last days of his life.

In one of his letters to Theo, he refers to the painting with these words: "Its violet shadows lie upon the sunlit sand."

This theme is rare in the painter's work, featuring 14 quinces arranged on a blue cloth with a brown wall background. The details of brightness, color scheme, and especially the brushstrokes make Vincent's authorship immediately recognizable.

This painting of blossomed pink peach trees was initially thought to be part of a triptych.

The artist was particularly pleased with this work and together with "The Pink Peach Tree" and "The Pink Orchard", it formed a triptych.

The painter wrote to his brother Theo about this landscape in Arles: "It is really a dream".

The artist painted this picture in 1890, among a number of landscapes in the weeks before his death, always outdoors. This magnificent work made him feel especially free, while also reflecting his feelings of melancholy and loneliness, which would soon lead him to suicide.
