Title (German): Trauben- und Melonenesser
This genre scene is one of the artist's most famous works, presenting typical characteristics of the Baroque.
It shows 2 urchins well illuminated against a dark background, in action and movement, both the gazes and the main lines of the composition go diagonally, the detail and realism of the figures is very high, so much so that just the grapes on the ground could be a still life of the finest quality. The light enters from above on the left and creates a dense shadow towards the opposite corner (chiaroscuro).
