The Green Wave, Monet

Although finished in 1867, this work was exhibited to the general public for the first time in 1879, more than a decade later. At that time a critic commented that Manet's influence was noticeable in his work, specifically, he considered it as a modern version of the naval battle seascapes, characteristic for the framing and the high horizon, of which the most prominent is "Battle of Kearsarge and Alabama" (1864).
